Health and Human Rights in Korea ? Current Status and Prospects
Kim Chang-Yup

Abstract
Discourse on human rights, in relation with health and health care, is still limited and anecdotal in the Republic of Korea. This research aims to explore current status of health-related human rights issues, based on the analytical framework proposed by Mann, et al. (1994). First, violation of human rights has produced the negative health outcomes, including deaths and disabilities. Psychological and psychiatric problems were prevalent among family members or relatives of massacre victims. Second, human rights have not been adequately considered in health care and public health programs. Third, right to health, as a positive right as well as one of social rights, remains still as abstract and symbolic, not realized to be a specific guide for action by the government.
